I love Wujal Wujal, nestled in next to the Bloomfield River, it has a vividness – rainforest colour and light! – about it so it’s always a pleasure to get to spend a couple of days there taking pics and talking to people.

This tiny community has a string of achievements which just seem to get bigger and better every time I go there. I’ve been lucky enough to watch the Bana Yirriji Wujal Wujal Arts & Cultural Centre, for example, progress from being on paper to its current status as a highlight of the Daintree tourist trail.

The newsletter has been a great opportunity for them to present themselves to each other and to rest of the world in a positive light – and it’s not only about what they have achieved over the previous few months, but also with an eye to what they hope to achieve for their community’s future.

It’s been my privilege to have a long-standing relationship with the Council and the community – as much as my fleeting visits every year allow – and I will always be happy to go back there for as long as they will have me.
